July Wrap-Up!

July has been a great month for my blog. I managed to write loads of posts which I am actually pleased with. I also got a decent amount of books read. As much as I could, I made the most of the sun and found new locations to read where I wouldn't be disturbed every two minutes!

Books read:

Caraval by Stephanie Garber (re-read)
5 stars

The first time I read this book I loved it, yet somehow in the time since reading it I had forgotten this fact. Re-reading the book I loved it even more. I love the world and the characters and the focus on family as well as romance. I really need to make it my mission to finish the series.

Vox by Christina Dalcher
4 stars

This book has been compared to The Handmaid's Tale a lot so I was curious to find out what all the fuss was about. It was an interesting and concerningly possible plot. It is clear that the author put a lot of thought into how the society would be impacted as a result of the events. It was altogether a good book to read.

Mudbound by Hillary Jordan
3 stars

This was my Grandma's book club read and she told me how she sped through it so I decided to quickly read it before she had to return it. I did not personally find the same enjoyment that she did, but it was not a bad book. The book explores some interesting topics and had some lovable characters, I just never felt fully invested in the story line and felt like I was only reading it so I could return the book in time.

Kindertransport by Diane Samuels
4 stars

I went into this play with low expectations and I was pleasantly surprised. When Emma first gave me the play to borrow I made serious assumptions based on the cover and assumed all the wrong things about the play. I ended up really enjoying the play and I want to go and see it now.

The Case of Beasts by Mark Salisbury, designed by MinaLima
5 stars

These books talk about the making of Fantastic Beasts as well as having pull-outs of the graphic art designed by MinaLima (resisting going on about how much I love them). I was going to buy this book a few years ago when it first came out but they had sold out and I couldn't find it anywhere as there was a very limited stock, so I am very pleased to have it now!

The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton
4 stars

I realised that I read a lot of books recommended by other people this month! Taya and I recommended each other a book to read this month and this was her pick. I read the book in one sitting and I really enjoyed it. I love the character development and emotions experience when reading the book. I can't believe it's written by a teen author!

Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake
3 stars

This was my book of the month with Chloe from Forever Fictional (yes, we are back! More on that soon). I haven't read a fantasy book like this in quite a long time so it was nice to dive back into the genre. This book was a bit slow but I liked the world and some of the characters we are introduced to (more of my thoughts on the book coming soon).

Favourite stuffs:

Illuminae audiobook

I know I should wait until next month's wrap-up as I haven't actually finished it yet, but this audiobook is incredible. It is read by a full cast and it has sound effects and all sorts which really enhance the story. I think it is definitely the best audiobook I have ever listened to and even though I've read the book before, I am enjoying it so much more this time. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is considering trying out audiobooks for the first time as it is really enjoyable to listen to. It is as though you are listening to a movie without seeing anything.

Stuff bought/gained:

Books

I managed to gain quite a lot of books this month as I went shopping with Emma twice. I blogged one of the trips which you can find in a link HERE. I was also kindly given two books from Aaron which were both Fantastic Beasts related, one of them being the Case of Beasts which I read this month and is an absolutely gorgeous book.

Harry Potter

I somehow manage to find Harry Potter related items everywhere I go. For example, even going on holiday to a foreign country I managed to come across the Harry Potter shop in the London airport which was absolutely amazing. I managed to spend far too much money but I got some absolutely stunning items. I bought Luna Lovegood’s spectre specs which I have been planning on getting for a very long time and I am so pleased that I have them (even if my family do not appreciate me wearing them as much as I would like them to).

I also got a bag which is designed like one of the Hogwarts trunks and it is one of the most beautiful items I have ever laid my eyes on. As soon as I saw it I fell in love and ended up spending a lot of money purchasing it. It is very good quality and absolutely stunning, the only disadvantage I have noticed when using it is that you are literally just carrying around a block of wood and it gets heavy after a while...

Things done:

Book shopping

As mentioned earlier I went book shopping with Emma a couple of times this month which was really fun and she even introduced me to a new bookshop which I have not been in before which was great.

Went on holiday to Sicily

This month I went to Sicily with my family for a week. it was a very beautiful place and was very, very hot, but it was nice to be able to sit with my feet in a pool while reading my book (until my brother came over to splash me). While we were out there we went on an amazing boat trip and got to see Mount Etna the day it was erupting ( totally wasn't worried about it affecting my flight home).

Other than that I have literally just been working all month because that is how I spend my time and read in between when I get the chance…

    1. It does spend most of the book just building up to things!
